Route 66 Logbook is a community powered travel app for people exploring, documenting and preserving the Mother Road.
The app allows users to discover Route 66 stops, upload photos, upvote places, suggest new stops and help keep information accurate for other travellers.
These Community Guidelines explain what belongs in the app, what does not, and how we keep Route 66 Logbook useful, respectful and safe.
By using Route 66 Logbook, you agree to follow these guidelines.
1.Help build a useful Route 66 guide
Route 66 Logbook is designed to help travellers discover real places along Route 66. You may contribute:
- Route 66 stops and landmarks
- Roadside attractions
- Historic places
- Diners, motels, museums, neon signs and classic Route 66 businesses
- Ghost towns, ruins and abandoned places that can be viewed legally and safely
- Photos you have taken yourself
- Practical travel notes
- Suggested corrections
- Closure updates
- Helpful context for future travellers
Your contributions should be genuine, useful and based on your own knowledge or experience.
2.Suggested stops and community confirmation
When you add a stop, it may appear in the app as a suggested stop. A suggested stop may need confirmation from other users before becoming an official Route 66 Logbook location. At launch, a stop or edit may require confirmation from three other users before it is treated as official in the app. Route 66 Logbook may still review, edit, reject, remove or approve content at admin discretion, especially if the information appears unsafe, inaccurate, duplicated, misleading or inappropriate.
3.Keep information accurate
Route 66 changes constantly. Businesses close, attractions move, roads are rerouted, opening hours change and access rules may be different by the time another traveller arrives. Please do your best to make sure your contribution is accurate. Do not knowingly post:
- Fake locations
- False closure reports
- Incorrect addresses
- Misleading opening hours
- Made up history
- Fake photos
- Duplicate stops
- Information designed to confuse or mislead travellers
If you are unsure about something, it's best to not include it.
4.Respect private property and local communities
Route 66 passes through real towns, neighbourhoods, businesses, homes, tribal lands, historic sites and private properties. Do not encourage trespassing, vandalism or unsafe access. You must not post:
- Instructions for entering private or restricted properties
- Directions that encourage trespassing
- Advice on bypassing gates, fences, warnings or security
- Content encouraging vandalism, theft or damage
- Private home addresses unless they are already publicly recognised visitor locations
- Photos that intrude on private residents
- Content that disrespects local communities, businesses or property owners
You may mention abandoned, closed or historic places where relevant, but your contribution must not encourage unsafe or illegal access.
5.Safety comes first
Route 66 travel can involve long distance driving, isolated areas, extreme weather, old structures, abandoned buildings, wildlife, rough roads and limited services. Do not post content that encourages:
- Unsafe driving
- Entering unstable buildings
- Ignoring warning signs
- Climbing on structures
- Drinking and driving
- Damaging property
- Entering restricted roads or sites
- Taking unnecessary risks for photos, badges or achievements
6.Upload only content you have the right to share
Only upload photos, descriptions, tips or other content that you created yourself or have permission to use. Do not upload:
- Photos taken from Google, Instagram, Facebook, guidebooks or other websites
- Screenshots of maps or third party content
- Copyrighted text from books, websites or brochures
- Professional images you do not own
- Logos, artwork or designs you do not have permission to use
By posting content, you confirm that you have the right to share it.
7.Photos with people in them
Please respect people's privacy when uploading photos. Photos with identifiable people are only allowed if:
- the person has given permission, or
- the person appears incidentally in the background of a public place.
Do not upload:
- Close ups of strangers without permission
- Children as the main subject without parent or guardian consent
- People in private homes, hotel rooms, bathrooms, vehicles or private property
- People in vulnerable, unsafe or embarrassing situations
- Photos that expose personal details, such as readable licence plates, IDs, addresses or documents
- Photos that show or encourage trespassing, vandalism or illegal behaviour
If someone is identifiable in a photo and asks for it to be removed, Route 66 Logbook may remove the photo.
8.Be respectful
Route 66 Logbook is a community app. Keep it helpful. Do not post:
- Abuse, harassment or threats
- Hate speech
- Racist, sexist, homophobic or discriminatory content
- Personal attacks
- Sexual harassment
- Graphic, violent or disturbing content
- Content targeting another user, local, business owner or traveller

9.No spam or misleading promotion
Route 66 Logbook is not a place for spam. Do not post:
- Repetitive promotional content
- Fake business listings
- Fake upvotes
- Irrelevant links
- Scam offers
- Affiliate links without permission
- Misleading business descriptions
- Content designed mainly to advertise something unrelated
Businesses are not currently able to claim or manage listings directly.
10.Names and contributor credit
If you add a stop, your contributor name may be shown in the app as:
Added by [name]
Do not use a false name, impersonate someone else or pretend to represent a business, town, organisation or attraction unless you have permission.
11.Reporting content
Users can report inappropriate, unsafe, inaccurate or misleading content in the app. Reported content may be reviewed by the Route 66 Logbook admin. Route 66 Logbook may:
- Edit content for clarity, accuracy or safety

This includes the right to edit user submitted descriptions, locations, photos and details for clarity, formatting, safety, accuracy or consistency. We are not required to publish or keep any user contribution.
13.Changes to these guidelines
Route 66 Logbook may update these Community Guidelines as the app develops. The latest version will be available in the app or on: route66logbook.com
