Help and support
How can we help?
Hi there. Route 66 Logbook is made by a small studio, which mostly means one person. If something isn't working, or you just have a question, you can reach me directly and I'll reply personally.
How it works
Free to roam, yours to log.
Browse the whole map for nothing. When you want the road to remember itself, a single purchase unlocks the Logbook for good.
Free

Common questions
The practical stuff
How do I restore a purchase I've already made?
Open the app and tap any Logbook feature to bring up the unlock screen. At the bottom you'll find Restore purchases. Tap it and your unlock will return to this device, as long as you're signed in with the same Apple ID you bought it with.
Because it's a single purchase tied to your Apple ID, you'll never be charged twice. If a restore doesn't go through, email me and I'll sort it out with you.
Can I cancel, and how do refunds work?
There's nothing to cancel. The Logbook is a single purchase rather than a subscription, so it won't renew and it won't bill you again.
Refunds for anything bought through the App Store are handled by Apple, not by me, so I'm not able to issue them myself. If you'd like to request one, you can do it through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something went wrong, do write to me as well and I'll help however I can.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account at any time inside the app. Open Settings, then tap Delete my account. Here's exactly what that does:
Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, your trips, and your photos. Stops you've added will remain on the map to help other travellers, but will no longer be linked to you. This cannot be undone.
If you'd rather not do it yourself, email me at hello@route66logbook.com and I'll take care of it for you.
What information does the app collect?
As little as possible, and none of it is ever sold or shared with advertisers. When you create an account I keep your email address and the profile you choose to build, which is a display name and an optional avatar and bio. Your password is encrypted and I never see it.
When you contribute, I store what you add: the stops, photos, flags and corrections you submit. Photos are stripped of their hidden location data on your phone before they're ever uploaded. If you switch on notifications, I store a token so the app can send them.
There is no analytics, no crash tracking and no advertising anywhere in the app. The map itself is powered by Mapbox, which receives your location so it can show where you are.
Why does the app ask for location in the background?
So your trip can record itself. Route 66 Logbook can log the stops you pass automatically, which means it needs to notice when you're near one even while the app is closed. That's why iOS asks for background location.
Here's the part that matters most: the matching happens on your phone. The stops you pass, and the times you pass them, are saved locally on your device and are never uploaded to any server.
If you'd rather not use it, you can set location to While Using, or turn it off entirely, in iOS Settings. The app still works beautifully. You'll simply confirm stops yourself instead of having them logged for you.
Do I need an account to use the app?
No. You can explore the entire map as a guest. A free account is what lets you contribute stops to the map and keep your Logbook as you travel.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. Route 66 Logbook is on iPhone for now. If there's enough interest in an Android version down the road, I'd love to build one.
